Traunstein / Heilbronn, 29 April 2025
MaxSolar GmbH has heralded the official start of construction of the transformer station in Eppingen and the solar park in Gemmingen with two ground-breaking ceremonies in the Heilbronn district. The symbolic ground-breaking ceremonies took place yesterday, Monday 28 April 2025 - in the morning at the substation construction site in Eppingen and in the afternoon at the solar park in Gemmingen.
Both projects represent important steps towards a sustainable energy supply in Baden-Württemberg and promote the feed-in of solar power from renewable sources. To celebrate this occasion together with the people of the region, MaxSolar GmbH invited project partners, property owners and representatives of the municipal administrations - for a personal exchange with the project team and for symbolic ground-breaking ceremonies for the local energy transition.
The substation in Eppingen will enable the neighbouring solar park with a total output of around 60 megawatts (MW) to be connected in future. In close cooperation with the municipality of Gemmingen, work began two years ago on the development of the Gemmingen ground-mounted PV system, which will play a central role in the regional energy supply with an output of around 56 MW. This early co-operation also forms the basis for the planning of the transformer station.
The project company - consisting of BürgerEnergieGenossenschaft Kraichgau eG, Heidelberger Energiegenossenschaft eG and BürgerEnergie Karlsruhe eG - is working closely with MaxSolar GmbH as the general contractor. The cooperation with the Kraichgau cooperatives and the deliberately large design of the transformer station will create a central infrastructure for the energy transition in the region. In addition, connection options for a further solar park in the municipality of Eppingen with around 30 MW are being planned.
The solar park in Gemmingen also relies on innovative technologies: Agri-PV systems are being used in a five-hectare section of the site, which, in addition to generating solar power, will enable further agricultural use of the land, as well as trackers that adjust the solar modules to the position of the sun and thus maximise energy yields. A direct power purchase agreement (PPA) is planned for part of the plant, for around 5 MW. This PPA enables direct and long-term power purchase, ensuring a stable and sustainable energy supply. There is also the option of citizen participation via shares in the citizens' energy cooperative EGIS eG, which enables local people to actively participate in the energy transition and benefit from the projects.
David Butz, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MaxSolar GmbH, emphasises: "The two projects are an excellent example of how the energy transition can be successfully implemented locally. It was important to us to involve the people in the region right from the start - whether through local citizen participation or close cooperation with the municipalities. We are delighted that construction has now begun in both Gemmingen and Eppingen and that the projects are taking shape."
