HEAT

Using green electricity efficiently

Around half of energy consumption in Germany is used to heat buildings and water. Most heating systems are still fuelled by fossil fuels such as natural gas and oil, which release climate-damaging CO2.

In order to achieve a climate-neutral heat supply, these energy sources must be replaced by renewable alternatives. This requires a rethink and innovative solutions.

Together for a sustainable future
Climate-neutral heat

For us, rethinking means relying on regenerative heating systems and utilising renewable electricity from photovoltaic, wind power and storage systems. This is supplemented by waste heat and natural geothermal energy, which are key components of CO2-neutral heat generation. After all, the energy transition can only succeed if the heating sector is increasingly supplied with renewable energy in addition to the electricity sector.

The Heat Planning Act (WPG), which came into force in January 2024, has created a clear legal framework: All heating networks in Germany must be climate-neutral by 2045 at the latest. Local authorities are now obliged to develop strategies and measures to achieve this goal as part of municipal heating planning.

These plans serve as a basis for:

  • Significant reduction in CO2 emissions in the heating sector
  • Reduced dependence on fossil fuel imports
  • More stable and future-proof energy prices
  • Strengthening local value creation through regional service providers
  • Future-proof heat supply

With our comprehensive expertise, we support cities and municipalities in municipal heating planning, feasibility studies and the planning and construction of renewable district heating systems.

The aim is to ensure a future-proof, climate-neutral and efficient heat supply that meets local needs and sustainably reduces CO₂ emissions.

Municipal heat planning

We offer customised solutions based on a detailed inventory analysis, modern planning tools and the use of a digital twin. This virtual model makes it possible to precisely map real heating systems, simulate scenarios and optimise energy flows.

1. Project management

Comprehensive support and coordination of all phases of your project

2. Inventory analysis
  • Collecting and analysing all available data, including requesting relevant information from major heat consumers and conducting on-site research

  • Presentation of the results and finalisation of the inventory analysis
3. Potential analysis
  • Identification and evaluation of heat supply options

  • Consideration of all renewable energy sources such as wind and solar energy, biomass, deep and near-surface geothermal energy, environmental heat and waste heat from industry and municipal waste water
4. Target scenario and heating strategy

Development of concrete implementation strategies, including a detailed catalogue of measures

5. Public participation
  • Creation of a communication strategy that involves all relevant stakeholders

  • Active information and targeted involvement of citizens in the planning process
6. Final report

Provision of all relevant data and results in a detailed report that serves as a basis for further planning and implementation of the heat transition
