Intersolar as a platform for the next phase of the energy system: MaxSolar puts green storage integration and flexibility at the centre

Intersolar Europe 2026 has clearly demonstrated that the continued expansion of renewable energy alone is no longer sufficient. At the heart of the current debate on energy policy and the energy sector lies the question of how flexibility and storage can be systematically integrated into the energy system. For MaxSolar, the focus was particularly on engaging in in-depth discussions with policy-makers and grid operators.

A key message this year emerged from the dialogue with politicians. Both at the exhibition stand and in various formats, MaxSolar discussed the role of grid-connected battery storage and flexible infrastructure with high-ranking representatives – including CSU Secretary-General Martin Huber (CSU), Katharina Schulze (Alliance 90/The Greens), Florian von Brunn (SPD) and Parliamentary State Secretary Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter (SPD) – on the role of grid-friendly battery storage and flexible infrastructure. It became clear across party lines that the accelerated roll-out of battery storage and greater flexibility in the energy system are key prerequisites for the next steps.

“We are seeing a clear show of solidarity between politicians, grid operators and the industry: the importance of flexibility and green energy storage is being recognised. It is now a matter of further developing the regulatory framework so that these solutions can be rolled out quickly and become viable for investment,” says Christoph Strasser, CEO of MaxSolar. 

At the same time, it became clear that the right regulatory framework is now of paramount importance. Green storage and grid-supporting systems must be specifically strengthened as a key driver of efficiency, security of supply and energy independence. This also involves further developing existing system logic: it should be possible to charge battery storage systems during redispatch operations in order to efficiently absorb curtailed electricity and make it available for use within the system. It is crucial to facilitate investment and significantly accelerate the integration of renewable energies into the system. 

At the same time, close dialogue with grid operators played a key role. As early as the Future Energy Summit, MaxSolar, together with Bayernwerk and N-ERGIE, discussed concrete approaches for integrating flexibility into the distribution grid. The focus was on grid bottlenecks, a lack of incentive schemes, and innovative connection and operating models. The discussions show that grid operators, too, are increasingly willing to embed flexibility more firmly in their planning and operations. 

A current project by MaxSolar demonstrates that these approaches are not merely being discussed, but are already being implemented: in Wutzldorf, Germany’s first grid-supporting battery storage facility under Section 11a of the Energy Economy Act (EnWG), with a capacity of 5 MW / 25 MWh, is under construction. The aim is to provide flexibility specifically within the distribution network – precisely where it is needed to ensure stability and a more efficient integration of renewable energies. The first BESS containers were delivered during Intersolar, underlining the company’s commitment to consistently putting system solutions into practice. 

Another strong indication of the economic viability of integrated solutions is the collaboration that has been launched with MVV Trading GmbH. The first fixed-price contract for the hybrid marketing of a PV/BESS co-location demonstrates that flexibility and storage are increasingly enabling viable, market-based business models. 

Intersolar 2026 has thus made one thing particularly clear: the integration of green storage, flexible grid structures and innovative marketing models are no longer matters for the future, but key building blocks for a secure, affordable and climate-neutral energy system.
