Traunstein/Leipzig, 08.10.2026
Project developer MaxSolar and flexibility trader Energy2market (e2m) have signed a seven-year hybrid power purchase agreement (hybrid PPA). The combined power purchase agreement covers the marketing of a 45 MW solar park and a 20 MW battery storage facility with a capacity of 40 MWh in Waren (Müritz), Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The solar park began operations in the summer of 2026, with the battery storage facility following in September 2027. The solar park and battery storage facility are designed as a co-location project and share a common grid connection via their own substation.
The two companies have thus concluded Germany’s first hybrid PPA, which safeguards the remuneration for the battery storage system via a floor mechanism. The operator receives a share of the optimisation revenues but is at the same time protected by a contractually agreed minimum remuneration.
“Following Gemmingen, Friedrichshof and Darstadt, we are launching our fourth co-location in Waren, featuring our fourth marketing concept. With Energy2market, we are partnering with a very strong player in the field of flexibility trading. The agreed floor structure combines long-term predictability with optimal management of the battery storage system, thereby creating benefits for both contracting parties,” says Moritz Kimmich, PPA Origination Manager at MaxSolar.
Intelligently linking generation, storage and marketing
The combination of photovoltaics and battery storage at a shared grid connection point offers additional flexibility in the marketing of renewable energy. As the battery storage system is not tied to the time at which solar energy is generated, it can respond specifically to market and price signals. In multi-market optimisation, the storage system is specifically marketed in the market segment – day-ahead, intraday or balancing energy market – where the highest revenues can be achieved.
“We are breaking new ground with this marketing model for goods. In recent years, we have already been able to unlock attractive revenue potential by optimising green electricity storage systems co-located with PV; now, for the first time, we are combining this with long-term revenue protection. The floor structure creates predictable cash flows without the operator having to surrender all the optimisation revenues from their storage system. We are delighted that, through constructive discussions with MaxSolar, we have developed an innovative marketing model for green electricity storage systems,” adds Filip Markert, Originator at Energy2market.
Christoph Strasser, Managing Director of MaxSolar, also emphasises: “A NextGen IPP requires not only a diversified portfolio of plants, but also innovative and varied marketing models. With structures such as those used in the Waren project, MaxSolar generates predictable cash flows, strengthens the financial viability of the projects and, at the same time, retains the opportunity to tap into additional revenue potential in the energy markets. For us, this combination is a key building block for a resilient and growing IPP portfolio.”
The seven-year hybrid PPA combines long-term revenue security for MaxSolar with market-optimised marketing and management of the co-location project by e2m.
"The energy transition requires not only more renewable generation and storage, but also marketing models that intelligently combine the two and ensure their long-term viability. With our experience in flexibility trading, our own financial strength and the EDF Group behind us, we can not only structure innovative contract models but also secure them for the long term. We would like to thank MaxSolar for the trust they have placed in us and look forward to our long-term collaboration with great confidence. Together, with this project, we are creating a blueprint for the next generation of co-location projects,” says Hannes Behacker, Managing Director of Energy2market.
MaxSolar and e2m intend to continue their collaboration in the long term. The experience gained from the Waren project will also be incorporated into the development and marketing of further commercially viable co-location and storage projects.
