What if solar power were also available late in the evening – precisely when demand is at its highest? This is made possible by battery storage systems, which store energy flexibly and feed it back into the grid as and when required.

MaxSolar GmbH and Entrix GmbH have signed a marketing agreement for the Winterschneidbach battery storage project in the Ansbach area. The project comprises a large-scale grid-supporting storage facility with a capacity of 20 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 100 megawatt-hours (MWh), and is one of the largest of its kind in Bavaria.
MaxSolar develops and operates energy projects across the entire value chain and, with Winterschneidbach, is firmly committed to the flexible and system-supporting expansion of the energy infrastructure. The aim is to reduce grid bottlenecks, integrate renewable energies more efficiently and address the growing demands for flexibility in the electricity system. Studies show that the targeted use of flexibility and digitalisation in the distribution network can unlock cost-saving potential of up to 12.4 billion euros annually.
The battery storage facility in N-ERGIE’s distribution network area is specifically used to absorb surplus electricity during periods of high feed-in and to make it available during periods of increased demand. This helps to balance out peak loads, utilise grid capacity more efficiently and reduce the need for costly grid expansion measures.
This is already MaxSolar’s second grid-supporting storage facility: the company is constructing a further storage facility in the Bayernwerk grid area in accordance with Section 11 of the Energy Economy Act (EnWG) – again in collaboration with Entrix.
Entrix is responsible for the AI-supported marketing and operational optimisation of the storage facility as part of a multi-market strategy. The storage facility will be operated on a ‘fully merchant’ basis. Intelligent trading and deployment strategies ensure that economic efficiency and grid-supporting operation are optimally combined.
MaxSolar is thus building the largest grid-supporting storage facility in Bavaria, underlining its ambition to position itself as a leading provider of grid-supporting storage projects in Germany. Grid-supporting storage facilities are a central component of the corporate strategy towards becoming a Next Generation IPP, which MaxSolar is consistently pursuing.

The growing importance of flexibility is also the focus of MaxSolar’s activities at this year’s Intersolar Europe: on 24 June, at the MaxSolar stand, Katharina Schulze (Member of the Bavarian State Parliament, Group Chair of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN), Anne-Kathrin Pauly (Fachagentur Wind & Solar), Christoph Strasser (CEO, MaxSolar) and Constantin Nicklas (CRO, Entrix) will take part in the panel discussion ‘Flexibility & FCAs: New Rules of the Game for Grid Connection?’, exploring how flexible grid connection models and storage solutions can specifically help relieve pressure on the grids, and what regulatory and economic conditions are necessary for wider-scale implementation.
