Official Commissioning of the Darstadt solar park in the Würzburg district by MaxSolar GmbH – 70 Megawatts of clean energy

Darstadt/Ochsenfurt, July 1, 2025

On Monday, the Darstadt Solar Park in the Würzburg district was officially commissioned by MaxSolar GmbH. The grand opening ceremony was attended by numerous invited guests from politics, administration, environmental authorities, landowners, and project partners.

The solar park is divided into two sections: the 50-hectare Northern Solar Park and the 20-hectare Southern Solar Park. A total of around 115,000 photovoltaic modules have been installed. With a total capacity of approximately 70 megawatts, the facility will generate climate-friendly electricity for an estimated 23,000 households. This will save around 53,500 tons of CO₂ annually.

Grand opening with invited Guests
The event began with a welcome address by Christoph Strasser, Managing Director of MaxSolar GmbH, the responsible project developer and general contractor: “With the Darstadt Solar Park, where the PV park, cable routes, and transformer station were realized in just nine months, we once again demonstrate how we, as project developers and general contractors, are advancing the energy transition with our own projects – independently, economically, and in harmony with nature. From planning to implementation, the entire project was under our responsibility. It was especially important to us to combine climate protection with concrete measures for nature conservation.”

Other speeches were given by Thorsten Glauber, Member of the Bavarian Parliament and Bavarian Minister for the Environment and Consumer Protection, Karen Heußner, Deputy District Administrator of the Würzburg District, Peter Juks, Mayor of Ochsenfurt, and Pascal Lang, Chairman of the Energy Cooperative Inn-Salzach eG (EGIS eG). Minister Glauber emphasized: “Renewable energies are our future. The Darstadt Solar Park is a flagship project for the energy transition in Bavaria. It is one of the largest ground-mounted solar plants in the Free State. The Darstadt Solar Park also impressively demonstrates how renewable energies and nature conservation can go hand in hand.”

Financed through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
The project was completed without any funding from the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and was fully financed through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). This proven financing model ensures investment security and simultaneously supports the continuous expansion of renewable energy – a model that is becoming increasingly important. Additionally, there are plans for citizen participation through shares in an energy cooperative. More details will be announced after the summer break.
