A photovoltaic system, battery storage and a shared substation lay the foundations for an efficient regional electricity supply
Großenwiehe, 15.07.2026
With the official ground-breaking ceremony, MaxSolar, together with representatives from the municipality of Großenwiehe, landowners, the grid operator SH Netz and other project partners, celebrated the start of construction of the Großenwiehe solar park. Numerous guests from local politics, the civil service, the business community and the press attended the launch of the construction phase. The project comprises a solar park with an installed capacity of around 69 MW, a battery storage facility and a substation developed in collaboration with project partner greentech. This will create the conditions needed to reliably integrate renewable electricity into the grid and strengthen the regional energy supply in the long term.
Construction work has been underway since the beginning of July. A substation is being built alongside the photovoltaic plant. It forms the basis for the plant’s grid connection and enables the efficient use of the existing infrastructure. The project is complemented by a battery storage system, which will allow for more flexible feeding of the generated solar power into the grid in future. Through the interplay of power generation, storage and grid connection, MaxSolar is pursuing a holistic approach to the development of modern energy projects.
“The start of construction in Großenwiehe marks the beginning of an infrastructure project that we have developed over several years in collaboration with the local council, landowners and our project partners. Today, the expansion of renewable energy is about much more than just generating electricity. It is crucial to establish an efficient energy infrastructure comprising generation plants, grid connections and storage capacity. Only in this way can energy be reliably delivered to where it is needed by households and industry. With projects such as this, we are making an important contribution to the expansion of this infrastructure in Germany,” says Felix Häusler, Chief Development Officer at MaxSolar.
More than just a solar park
The Großenwiehe solar park has an installed capacity of around 69 MW and covers an area of approximately 64 hectares. Around 108,000 solar panels will generate renewable electricity each year, which is estimated to be enough to meet the needs of just under 20,000 households.
The start of construction was preceded by a development phase lasting several years. Since the site was first secured at the end of 2020, numerous planning and approval stages have been completed and the technical requirements for the project’s implementation have been met. A key component of the project was the joint planning of the grid infrastructure with greentech. The new substation enables the grid connection of several generation plants and makes efficient use of existing capacity. Together with the battery storage system, this creates an integrated concept that effectively combines generation, storage and grid infrastructure.
In addition, provision has been made for public participation so that people in the region can also benefit from the project’s value creation in the long term.
Work on site is progressing according to plan. The first construction phases of the photovoltaic plant have already been completed, whilst work on the substation is continuing in parallel. The EEG section of the plant is scheduled to be commissioned in September 2026. The PPA section and grid connection are due to follow in the first quarter of 2027.
Through projects such as Großenwiehe, MaxSolar not only develops plants for generating renewable electricity, but also integrates them with storage and grid infrastructure. This results in solutions that meet the growing demands for a secure, efficient and sustainable energy supply.
