Large solar farm with storage facilities in Trebnitz near Gera

Press release

MaxSolar has successfully completed a 7.4-hectare ground-mounted photovoltaic plant along the motorway in the Trebnitz district near Gera. The solar park has a capacity of around 8 MWp and reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 2,700 tonnes annually. The project thus makes a significant contribution to the regional energy transition.

As a holistic infrastructure developer and operator, MaxSolar covers the entire value chain of the new energy economy and prioritises efficiency and flexibility in its implementation. An additional energy storage system with a capacity of approx. 2 MW is integrated into the solar park, increasing system flexibility and enabling demand-driven feed-in. The combination of photovoltaics and storage ensures stable, efficient and cost-effective operation throughout the entire project lifetime.

A prudent approach to land use and nature conservation is a central component of the project development. Around the plant, sand dune biotopes and other compensatory structures are being created, which significantly more than offset the impact on nature and the landscape. The project thus not only contributes to climate-friendly energy generation but also enhances the ecological quality of the local environment. The city of Gera and the municipality of Trebnitz also benefit from this: 90% of the trade tax remains locally, boosting regional value creation, and can be further supplemented through a municipal EEG agreement.

The ground-mounted photovoltaic plant was developed by Elbkraftwerke GmbH and constructed by MaxSolar GmbH in a record time of just four weeks. This was only possible thanks to a collaborative dialogue with the relevant building authorities, landowners and local communities. The next step will be the installation of the storage system specially designed for the plant by Terrexx Energy GmbH, so that the PV electricity generated can be used even more efficiently in future.

“With the PV project in Trebnitz, we are demonstrating how renewable energy generation can be implemented in a decentralised and efficient manner. Close coordination with the local authority, clear route planning and the integration of a storage system enable optimal overall planning that supports both regional value creation and the stability of the energy system,” says Christoph Strasser, CEO of MaxSolar GmbH.
