Traunstein, 05.02.2026
With the planned construction of a grid-connected battery storage facility in accordance with Section 11a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG), MaxSolar GmbH is setting another important milestone for a sustainable, resilient power grid. The storage facility in the Bavarian district of Cham, with an output of 5 megawatts (MW) and a capacity of 25 megawatt hours (MWh), will be built from May 2026 and is scheduled to go into operation in October 2026. It is the first grid-connected storage facility of this type in accordance with Section 11a of the EnWG.
Entrix GmbH is responsible for the AI-supported marketing and optimisation of the battery storage system. Intelligent trading and deployment strategies ensure that the storage system is used in a way that is both beneficial to the system and economically optimal.
The battery storage facility can theoretically cover the daily electricity needs of around 5,000 average households, while also making a significant contribution to stabilising the local power grid. Thanks to its grid-friendly operation, the storage facility helps to avoid or significantly reduce necessary grid expansion measures, thereby also lowering grid expansion costs.
‘With Entrix, we have gained a strong partner for this project, which is unique in Germany. The collaboration enables us to operate battery storage systems economically and reliably, even under demanding grid conditions,’ says Christoph Strasser, CEO of MaxSolar.
‘With the Wutzldorf project, we are demonstrating how battery storage can reduce grid bottlenecks and increase system stability. This approach offers a cost-effective and scalable way to implement energy storage in regions with limited grid capacity. We are delighted to be working with MaxSolar to implement Germany's first grid-supporting project,’ says Steffen Schülzchen, CEO of Entrix.
The grid-friendly operation of the storage facility is specifically tailored to the needs of the electricity grid: during periods of high photovoltaic feed-in, especially during summer midday peaks, surplus electricity is absorbed and stored. This noticeably relieves the local grid. In the morning and evening hours, when the grid load is particularly high, the storage facility is operated in such a way that no additional electricity is drawn from the grid.
This operating model demonstrates that economic operation and grid utility are compatible. The storage facility not only contributes to grid stability, but can also be operated in a market-oriented and efficient manner.
With this project, MaxSolar and Entrix are demonstrating how battery storage can act as a central component of energy-efficient grids – as a link between renewable energy generation, grid stability and economic efficiency.
