MaxSolar and RP Global open a 49.5 MW solar park in Harbke

MaxSolar and RP Global have officially commissioned the Harbke PV park on a former lignite mining site in Saxony-Anhalt. The ground-mounted photovoltaic plant has a total capacity of 49.5 MW and serves as a prime example of the sustainable reuse of historically significant sites.

Together with RP Global, MaxSolar officially opened the Harbke PV park on 24 September 2026. The plant is situated in the Börde district of Saxony-Anhalt, near the former inner-German border. Over the past few months, a high-performance solar park has been built on the site of a former lignite mine, which will generate renewable electricity in future.

Sustainable use of a former lignite mining site

As an EPC partner of RP Global, MaxSolar was responsible for the design, procurement and construction of the ground-mounted photovoltaic plant. With an installed capacity of 49.5 MW, Harbke is one of the major solar projects in the MaxSolar portfolio. The project helps to put an area historically shaped by mining to a new and sustainable use in the long term.

Construction began in July 2025. By November 2025, the entire plant capacity had already been commissioned under the EEG. The solar park had been technically ready for full commissioning since February 2026. Following completion of the on-site substation, the plant can now be fully commissioned. The solar power generated is sold under the EEG scheme and through direct marketing.

Successful collaboration with RP Global

The Harbke solar park is not only an important project milestone, but also a testament to the trusting and collaborative partnership between RP Global and MaxSolar. Its successful completion within a challenging timeframe was made possible in particular by close coordination amongst all those involved in the project and the dedicated efforts of the teams.

With the PV park now fully operational, a further 49.5 MW of renewable generation capacity is being fed into the grid in Harbke, and a former industrial site is being given a sustainable new lease of life.
