For the third year running, the Future Energy Summit brought together more than 200 leading decision-makers from the energy sector, business, finance and politics. Under the theme ‘Competitive Infrastructure: Flexibility for Resilient Grids’, participants discussed how the energy infrastructure of the future can be designed to be efficient, cost-effective and resilient.
The focus was on key issues relating to the energy transition: How can grid connections be turned into a locational advantage? What role do battery storage and flexibility play in ensuring a stable energy system? And what political and regulatory frameworks are needed to accelerate investment in energy infrastructure?
Sebastian Bolay (DIHK) opened the event with a keynote speech on the challenges and opportunities presented by an efficient energy infrastructure, as well as on the future of Germany as an industrial location.
In the subsequent panel discussion on energy policy, Sebastian Bolay (DIHK), Dr Andreas Kießling (Bayernwerk), Margarete von Oppen (orka) and Robert Schachtschneider (Schwarz Group) discussed grid expansion, grid connections and the regulatory framework required for a competitive energy sector.
Another highlight of the programme focused on how battery storage, flexibility measures and innovative business models can make the energy supply more stable and cost-effective in the future. Christoph Strasser (CEO of MaxSolar GmbH), Alexandra Mützelburg (Bird & Bird), Thomas Bruch (N-ERGIE Netz GmbH) and Michael Roth (TenneT) highlighted the potential of smart storage solutions and market-based incentives for the energy system of the future.
The expert panels were complemented by presentations on investment and financing models, as well as on the closer integration of energy and industrial policy – two crucial levers for the success of the energy transition.
As well as providing thought-provoking insights, the Future Energy Summit 2026 offered plenty of opportunities for face-to-face discussion. The summit made it clear that the transformation of the energy system can only succeed through close collaboration between politics, business and the energy sector. High-performance grids, flexible storage solutions and a reliable regulatory framework form the basis for a secure, resilient and competitive energy supply.
